Frequently Asked Questions
Is permanent makeup the same as a regular tattoo?
It is similar to a permanent tattoo, but I apply different techniques; utilizing different needles and specialized ink.
Is permanent makeup safe?
Yes. All procedures are safe. The pigments I use are made of natural minerals, they are non‑toxic and hypoallergenic. I pay great attention to safety and proper sterilization and disinfection of the equipment. The needles I use are pre‑packaged and new, opened in your presence, and discarded after each procedure. Although they may occur, allergic reactions to any type of tattooing pigments on the body or on the face are considered extremely rare. we always do a test patch first to make ensure you are not allergic.
Does it hurt?
Clients might feel some discomfort as the pigment goes through one layer of skin to the second layer, but clients find the treatments very bearable. This may vary for each individual because of different pain thresholds and skin sensitivity, but generally permanent make‑up is not painful. Most people will only experience some kind of discomfort. If desired numbing cream can be applied before treatment.
Why might I need more than one treatment?
The number of treatments required is determined by the nature and size of the targeted area, the individual’s response to the treatment, and other external factors. The mineral pigment used may fade over time, so some touch-ups may be required. Each treatment lasts roughly 1 to 5 years. Permanent make‑up last quite a long time. However, as with any tattoo or colourant it will fade with time due to skin’s exposure to the sun and other environmental elements, and through natural skin exfoliation. For that reason, periodic colour refreshing might be needed. Longevity varies from person to person depending on their skin, lifestyle, the colours used for the procedure (lighter colours fade faster than darker ones), and various skin products that a person may use.
How is pigmentation applied?
The pigment is colour-matched to your skin around the affected area and is applied using a tattoo gun.
What can I expect after the procedure?
You may expect some swelling and puffiness in the affected area for 2‑3 days depending on the procedure. Some flaking is also possible for a period of up to 2 weeks. Colour fully settles in the skin in about 4-6 weeks after the initial procedure, but it is expected to appear darker during the first week
Can scar camouflage be performed on someone taking Accutane for acne?
It is recommended to wait 1 year after the client has stopped taking Accutane to perform a paramedical tattoo procedure, especially if it’s acne microneedling on their face. However, if the client is on a maintenance dose of 20mg or less, it should be safe to proceed with the camouflage procedure on their body. Please make sure to talk to your client about their experience on Accutane and how it has affected their skin sensitivity as everyone is different. To be as safe as possible, you can have your client talk to their prescribing physician as well.
Can I have scar camouflage while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We do not perform this procedure on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, but would be happy to set up an appointment after you have finished nursing.
What activities should i avoid after my procedure ?
After the procedure do not expose your healing skin to direct sun or tanning beds. Avoid steamy showers, saunas, Jacuzzis and swimming in chlorinated pools. Do not pick, scrub or scratch the treated area, because the colour may heal unevenly in addition to some potential risks of scarring and infections.
Do you offer tattoo removal?
Currently, we do not offer tattoo removal services.
I have age spots that appear lighter in colour. Am I a candidate for micropigmentation?
Yes! Micropigmentation can treat age spots or issues that involve lighter markings on the skin (hypopigmented areas). It will not treat darker (or hyperpigmented) areas.
Do you treat old scars?
Yes! Scars that have been fully healed and are 6 to 12 months+ old allow us to better match pigmentation and break down the scar tissue to also match skin texture.
I have a scar which is the same colour as my skin. Is there anything to help reduce the appearance of its texture?
Yes! We have a procedure called Dry Needling. No pigment is used in this procedure. A medical-grade solution is used while Dry Needling the area which smooths out the raised skin.
